From Feedback to Fidelity: Bringing the Voice of the Customer to Life with JBL Synthesis SCL In-Room
By Kevin Kent
Senior Global Product Line Manager

One of the most rewarding parts of my role as a Global Product Line Manager is the constant dialogue we have with all of you. Dealers, distributors, system designers, and installers are on the front lines every day, and your feedback is what helps shape the future of JBL Synthesis.
Over the past several years, a clear theme kept coming up in those conversations. You told us that while customers love the performance of our architectural speakers, many real-world projects come with constraints that make traditional in-wall or in-ceiling solutions difficult or even impossible.
Sometimes it is solid wall construction. Sometimes it is a historic property. Sometimes it is a client who simply does not want to open up walls. And increasingly, it is the shift toward multi-purpose media rooms rather than dedicated theaters.
Taken together, these realities created a gap. And more importantly, an opportunity.
That opportunity became the SCL In-Room Series.

Designed for the spaces you actually work in.
The SCL In-Room Series brings true JBL Synthesis performance to projects where traditional in-wall installation isn’t possible, giving integrators new flexibility without compromise.
From the beginning, our goal was not to offer a compromise solution. We were not interested in creating just another on-wall speaker. What we set out to do was much more ambitious. We wanted to deliver true JBL Synthesis performance in a format that works in the kinds of spaces you are designing every day.
That philosophy guided every decision.
A key priority was maintaining a consistent sonic signature across the entire JBL Synthesis ecosystem. As you know, one of the defining characteristics of a great theater is seamless sound as it moves across channels. Dialogue, effects, and music should feel cohesive and precisely placed, not disconnected or uneven.
To make that possible, we built the SCL In-Room series using the same core technologies found in our architectural lineup. Compression drivers paired with HDI waveguides allow us to control how sound is projected into the room. In practical terms, that means clearer dialogue, more accurate imaging, and a more immersive experience for your clients.
At the top of the range, products like the SCL-10XL incorporate our D2815 dual-diaphragm compression driver. The benefit here is higher output with lower distortion. In the real world, that means you can design systems that hit cinematic levels without sacrificing clarity, even in more challenging rooms. We also paid close attention to the low and mid-frequency performance. Our C4 cone design combines carbon fibers and cellulose to achieve a balance of rigidity and damping. For you, that translates to speakers that remain composed at higher output levels while still delivering natural, detailed sound.
Flexibility was another critical consideration. Every project is different, and we wanted this series to give you more tools in your design toolkit. The speakers can be mounted vertically or horizontally, used in on-wall or in-room configurations, and integrated seamlessly with existing SCL and SSW models.
This opens the door to true mix-and-match system design. You can combine architectural speakers where possible with in-room solutions where needed, all while maintaining a unified performance target across the entire space.
We also took the opportunity to introduce the SSW-5, our first powered subwoofer in the JBL Synthesis lineup. With over 1000 watts of built-in amplification and a robust 12-inch driver, it simplifies installation while delivering the deep, controlled bass your clients expect.
So why does this matter for you and your business?
Because the SCL In-Room Series expands what is possible. It allows you to bring JBL Synthesis into more spaces, solve more challenges, and close more opportunities without compromising on performance.
We build these products for you. And we build them with you.
As always, thank you for your partnership and for the role you play in bringing the JBL Synthesis experience to life around the world.
