With Meet The HARMAN Luxury Team, our goal is for you to get to know us better. In each edition we feature a different member of the team, and this month it's Kamil Opara, Principal Software Systems Engineer.

How would you describe what you do in your current role?
As a Principal Software Systems Engineer, I solve real‑world software challenges, design and develop new audio software solutions, and collaborate with our partners to ensure the efficient release of our products.
What did you study in school? Did you always imagine yourself doing something like what you’re doing now or did the fates just take you in that direction?
I studied embedded software engineering at university, specializing in digital audio signal processing. I’ve always been both a music lover and a math enthusiast, so audio engineering was the perfect way to combine my two main interests.
How did your career path lead you to Harman?
My entire professional career has revolved around audio software. In my previous roles, I worked on audio codecs, professional audio hardware for recording studios, and audio solutions for mobile phones.
What is the most important thing you have learned over your career?
The most important lesson I’ve learned is to never stop learning and to choose a career aligned with your passions. When you do that, work becomes enjoyable - almost like a hobby.
Any other advice you would share with people just starting out in this industry?
Read widely, practice your craft every day, experiment, and don’t be afraid to take on new challenges.
What are you most proud of in your life?
My biggest career achievement has been playing a key role in a startup that developed an innovative audio software codec from the ground up, a technology that went on to become a hi‑fi industry standard and now runs on millions of devices worldwide.
When did you realize you had a passion for music or audio? Was there any one band, song, or movie that did it for you?
My passion for music began in my teenage years as I explored different genres. I eventually became a drummer and electronic music composer and played in several bands over the years.
What current technology impresses you the most?
Without a doubt, general AI impresses me the most. Its rapid rise surprised everyone, and it is quickly transforming almost every aspect of daily life.
Favorite music genre?Electronics
The desert island question, of course. If you were marooned for eternity & could listen to only 3 albums, what would they be?
John Coltrane - Love Supreme
Sonic Youth - Murray Street
Aphex Twin – Selected Ambient Works 85-92
You have the floor. In closing, tell us anything else you want us to know about yourself.
I live in Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire. My hobbies include synthesizers, photography and board games.
