With the JBL Spinner BT, colleagues, team members and many customers will be touching and using turntables for the first time. In the luxury audio world, turntables are not new or scary, but to many around the world, this will be their first experience. Turntables and vinyl provide a quite different experience to digital audio, that is part of the more tactile experience that vinyl offers.

Vinyl is a physical media, that means the actual sound waves that make up the music are actually physically there in the groove of the record. The needle sits in that groove picking up those physical sound waves as the record passes underneath it, and the cartridge turns them into very tiny voltages which are amplified inside the JBL Spinner BT before output. By its nature, it is super sensitive. The more sensitive it is, the more music you get from the record. What is absent in all of this, is any digital audio encoding, compression, or DSP. These are all technologies that we take for granted every day whether listening at home, or on the move but each is a manipulation of the sound that is recorded.

Yes, vinyl is noisier, and you’ll want to keep your needle in good condition and dust the records to get the best sound. But vinyl is a piece of a culture and to invest in it, is to represent part of one’s identity. It represents a deeper relationship with the artist, and greater commitment to the body of work they have created.

Removing the album from its sleeve, clearing any dust from its surface, setting it on the platter, holding the album cover, and settling in for a listen is a much slower, intimate experience than streaming.
