How long have you been in business?
High Definition Technologies Inc. has been in business since July of 2009.
How many locations do you have?
One location in Calgary, Alberta.
How did High Definition Technologies get its start?
High Def got it’s start when founding partners Mike Bell and Darryl Sinclair, who had worked together for several years before, teamed up in early 2009.
How many people are on the High Definition Technologies team?
There are currently 11 people on our team.
Thoughts on the importance of training?
As a custom integrator in a small and competitive market, we believe that customer service, and by extension, highly trained staff, are key to differentiating ourselves from competitors. By having a team of experienced and well-trained staff we can respond to service requests quickly and efficiently. To provide high-level customer service, it is critical that we are experts on each and every product we sell; this means having a premium quality, narrowly focused manufacturer selection, which we’ve spent years refining. By supporting a small selection of leading manufacturers, we ensure our team is always up to date on their latest products and knows the product thoroughly.
What do you like most about HARMAN Luxury Audio products?
In addition to exceptionally well performing product, we appreciate HARMAN’s attention to quality manufacturing and dealer support. Visiting HARMAN in Northridge, California gave us a much greater appreciation for HARMAN’s attention to detail in both design and manufacturing, as well as their passion for high-end audio.
Our current showroom configuration features the following:
Home Theatre: JBL Synthesis 7.4.4 in-wall system with SDR-35 receiver and SDA-7120 power amplifier
2-Channel: Revel F228Be tower speakers with Arcam SA30
Multi-Room: Revel C583 in-ceiling speakers with Lexicon DD8+
How do you think the luxury audio industry is currently doing?
The custom-installed luxury audio industry is flourishing. As we adapt to living with COVID, consumers are improving their home environment to be more comfortable and conducive to at-home activities; improvements in work-from-home spaces, self-care equipment like stationary bikes and saunas and family entertainment with theatres, media rooms and multi-room audio have all seen increased demand. Luxury clients are eager to experience premium-quality sound in their homes in order to give their family and friends a “night out at the movies” experience, but with higher-quality audio, video, seating, food and company!
What is High Definition Technologies’ mission?
Our mission is to provide our clients with unrivalled service, expertise and advice on high-quality home entertainment systems that enhance both their living space and lives by being a source of entertainment the entire family can enjoy.

We are a tight-knit team who are very lucky to work with some of the world’s best sounding audio equipment – we like to joke that we’re a big-kid toy store! By sharing our passion with our customers, we feel like we get to bring a small bit of joy into people’s day - every day - which really makes this line of work feel a lot more like a pastime than job. It also makes High Def a great place to work, and spend some time listening to great sounding HARMAN speakers!
