With Meet The HARMAN Luxury Team, our goal is for you to get to know us better. In each edition we feature a different member of the team, and this month it's Jaideep (Jay) Dharia, Principal Electrical Engineer.
How would you describe what you do in your current role?
Performing electrical/electronic circuit/hardware designs for HARMAN Luxury Audio products.
What did you study in school? Did you always imagine yourself doing something like what you’re doing now, or did the fates just take you in that direction?
I studied electronics and electromagnetics engineering and after 30+ years I am doing work closely related to what I studied in school.
How did your career path lead you to HARMAN?
A strong background in consumer hardware electronics including working in the television, video/audio and in-flight entertainment industries.
What is the most important thing you have learned over your career?
Be patient and strive for individual excellence. Also, to respect others and to work in a team environment.
Any other advice you would offer people just starting out in this industry?
There will always be advances in technology and ways to do things better.
What are you most proud of in your life?
I have raised a child who is severely hard of hearing and have seen him succeed in his career.
When did you first realize you had a passion for music or audio? Was there any one song, band or movie that did it for you?
Since I was a teenager I have enjoyed classic, rock, pop and disco types of music. I enjoyed the Beatles, Saturday Night Fever and Michael Jackson.
What current technology impresses you the most?
Wireless audio streaming and complete surround systems.
What's your favorite music genre?
Rock, pop and classical.
The desert island question, of course. If you were marooned for eternity and could listen to only three albums, what would they be?
Beatles, Eagles and Boston.
