JBL Synthesis systems combine the most advanced components, loudspeakers and room tuning to uniquely meet the performance criteria for an uncompromised cinema and music experience in any size room. Drawing from our lineup of products, we are able to provide a variety of pre-engineered solutions that perform with exceptional sonic accuracy from small media rooms to large dedicated home theater systems with accurate, consistent tonal quality and impactful dynamic range.

All JBL Synthesis components are designed to work together and complete systems are specified by the JBL Synthesis design and engineering teams here at Harman as turnkey solutions. Each of our SCL loudspeakers uses the same family of D2 compression driver and horn technology to blend together for proper timbre matching of each speaker in the system. All the SCL models can be used together in a variety of ways to create multiple systems.

To aid in specifying a system we have provided five prepackaged options, ranked by level to not only meet budget criteria but also performance conditions ideal for a variety of room sizes.

Our sample system packages highlight not only exciting components but new technologies such as Dante. We implemented Dante, a digital audio protocol, to provide audio signal connectivity from our new surround processor to amplifiers. Rather than increasing the number of analog connections for higher channel count systems, a single Ethernet cable can be connected from the surround processor to a standard switch, and then to as many power amps as needed. All five prepackaged systems also implement four subwoofers for the smoothest bass coverage in any room. Using a minimum of two subwoofers has always been our standard, but more recently four subwoofers are specified to maximize low frequency performance for every seat in a given space. Synthesis Five through Three system packages build on that foundation to employ the latest development from Dirac Live’s “Bass Control.” This new software feature along with the use of multiple subwoofers will provide a substantially improved room correction and bass response, with the added benefit of flexible subwoofer placement within the room to better suit a desired aesthetic.

We are also adding two JBL Cinema DSi 2.0 Series amplifier models to the lineup for compact, high-power amplification ideal for our passive subwoofers. Each model has four channels of amplification with bridgeable outputs. They integrate 32-bit/96khz DSP processing for features such as output limiting to protect the loudspeaker, parametric EQ, delay settings and of course Dante connectivity.

Let's take a look at these five powerful packages:

Synthesis Five (5.4.2)

This AVR-based system is ideal for a small to medium media room, boasting a compact solution that would work well in conjunction with a flat panel display. The SCL in-wall loudspeakers, used for LCR, surround and immersion channels use JBL’s patented D2 compression driver technology and HDI waveguide/horn geometry to provide impressive sound stage and high frequency detail with wide dispersion for surround channels. The SCL-3 and SCL-4 combination provides extraordinary performance in a very small package while maintaining a timbre matched speaker system. Connectivity from the AVR direct to subwoofer amplifier can be accomplished with a single Ethernet cable via Dante. Being an eight-channel system, this is interchangeable to 7.4 by substituting SCL-3 front height speakers for SCL-4 rear surrounds.

Synthesis Four (7.4.4)

Similar to Synthesis Five, this system is also an exceptional solution for a small to medium sized media room with an increased sense of immersion. Two rear surround and two additional height speakers are included in this system for an improved sense of immersion. The SDA-7120 power amplifier, used for effects channels, provides high-performance power that delivers efficient class G amplification. Being a 12-channel system, 15 speakers including the subwoofers, the remaining open amplifier channels can be used for a second zone or left open for greater efficiency and dynamic range.

Synthesis Three (7.4.4)

Synthesis Three is a separates-based system, fitting for a large media room or small to medium home theater paired with a video projector and screen. The SCL-2, paired with the SDA-2200 class G amplifier in bridged mode for LCR, delivers dynamic class G amplification with audiophile grade sound. This combo is capable of offering the highest level of acoustic performance available from a full range flush-mount loudspeaker with extended low frequency performance, allowing SPL to easily reach 105dB in-room reference level with headroom to spare. Four dual-10" in-wall subwoofers are included to deliver increased output capability and enhanced low frequency performance.

Synthesis Two (9.4.6)

The heart of this system is the 16-channel SDP-75, designed for ultimate performance. Ideal for a dedicated medium to large home theater with a video projector and screen, two additional side surround and height speakers are included for improved immersion across a larger seating area. Four dual 12" subwoofers are included for optimal output capability delivering deep, low bass and even low frequency performance throughout the entire seating area. The system configuration is designed as standard Dolby Atmos with front, middle and rear height speakers. The alternative configuration is to substitute Dolby Top Middle speakers for Center Height and Top channels to reproduce available DTS:X Pro and Auro3D formats.

Synthesis One (11.4.10)

This premium system features the upgraded 24-channel SDP-75. The built-in Optimizer calibration software includes a professional acoustic and speaker measurement system that handles true multipoint analysis, crucial for accurate 3D Audio and realistic immersion. A model solution for a large, dedicated home theater with a video projector and screen, two additional side surround and four additional height speakers are included for improved immersion for a larger seating area. All lower level channels utilize the SCL-2 for highest level of acoustic performance and enhanced system detail. This powerhouse system is designed with a standard Dolby Atmos configuration as the priority, with the option of replacing Dolby Top Middle speakers with Center Height and Top channels to reproduce available DTS:X Pro and Auro3D formats.
